ASIC Engineer - #12002

Location: Calgary, AB

The Technology Development Systems Architecture Team is responsible for developing NovAtel’s innovative receiver architecture and ASICs.  The ASIC Engineer will work will a talented team of designers to create core technologies for NovAtel’s OEM receiver products.

Responsibilities:

  • Contribute to the definition of ASIC specifications and architecture of SOC (System-On-Chip) sub-systems and modules
  • Provide design documentation for own blocks, implement logic designs in VHDL with minimal supervision, and perform design and code reviews
  • Implement test-benches and execute simulations to verify block-level and chip-level functionality
  • Conduct requirements-based verification with emphasis on tracing of requirements to test-bench implementation
  • Complete RTL and gate level simulations, timing analysis and design-for-test of complex ASICs
  • Conduct verification of ASIC designs through emulation on FPGA hardware platforms by performing synthesis, simulation and timing analysis of FPGA designs
  • Support electrical designers in lab testing and post silicon debugging
  • Perform HW/SW and system integration by interfacing with software and system engineers to define module and system requirements
  • Perform prototype analysis and benchmarking to qualify module and system functionality and performance

Qualifications:

Must-Have:                       

  • Bachelor or post-graduate degree in Electrical Engineering with 8+ years of design experience
  • Knowledge of ASIC design flow covering all phases of the design cycle including architecture and design specification with strong skills in RTL logic design, coding in VHDL and Verilog, verification, synthesis, formal verification and static timing analysis
  • Experience with Mentor ModelSim for simulation and Synopsys design tools for static timing analysis and equivalence checking
  • Experience with cross clock domain designs, GNSS signal structures, ARM processors, AMBA, DMA, memory interfaces, and other IP
  • Experience in requirements definition and writing technical specifications

Nice-to-Have:

  • Hands-on experience with chip bring-up, debug, and lab equipment such as logic analyzer and digital oscilloscopes
  • Some experience with one or more programming or scripting languages (C/C++, Perl, TCL, etc.)
  • Previous experience in SOC design involving embedded processors (preferably ARM knowledge)
  • Some experience in Board level and PCB design is advantageous
